The Non-U.S. Listener

Many of you living outside of the United States would like to know if SYNC is available to you.  Of course we want you all to participate, but some of the individual titles have international restrictions that originate from the original publisher contracts. If you are accessing titles from an IP address within a country restricted by rights we are sadly unable to provide the titles.  Our apologies! If you are on a US military base outside the US and having issues please email us at sync@audiofilemagazine.com

I can’t download Peter and the Starcatchers in Canada

    1. Michele Cobb

Canada is a member of the British Commonwealth so the title is not available there.

      1. Emilia

        I see that now, thanks

Many of the title you exclude are older books that have been published for years. So why the restrictions? Nonsense

    1. Michele Cobb

The majority of this summer’s SYNC titles are available worldwide. Individual titles have international restrictions that originate from the original publisher contracts. Here is our restrictions list.

    2. Ashley Solomon

Possible because the print version is old but the audiobook is newly produced and they create restrictions on them.

      1. Michele Cobb

Rights for audio are often sold in specific territories regardless of the age of the title.

Just also saying my pleasure at seeing a site that accounts for the non-USians who are also avid readers/listeners of YA! This South African Librarian is looking forward to promoting the free audiobooks to my students. Thanks again.

Your comment made us quite happy. Thank you for promoting to “non-USians” and welcome!

this indeed a very useful list. at least i know which ones i can download or cannot. thank you.

    1. afadmin

Yes, wish it was ALL available, but rights restrictions are a reality!

Is there a way to not put restrictions on titles for those of us on a military base in another country?

    1. afadmin

Dear Jeffery Family, we have looked into this, but cannot come up with a way using our present system. We must block IP addresses from countries where the audiobooks cannot be sold or distributed. We will keep looking for a way, however. Thanks for being in touch and thanks for serving!

I know the hardships of living abroad for military families. My family lived in Germany for six years. An option would to be to check on the military post, often they have an IP address that is a US IP address, but you need to be on the military post not the housing area. The post library may have one as well. Family Support Services might be able to set something up for families to come in an use computers for this.
Barnes and Noble for the nook gets around this issue but it relies on credit cards with US address and they even still have issues at times with the ebooks.

      1. afadmin

Tammy, thank you for these suggestions! We are a small, small operation and don’t have the people power to do this level of detailed IP investigation, but your notes help us think about it for the future. Really, many thanks!

Thank you for providing us with this information on restrictions. We need to tailor our promotion of your “summer” offer as it is (our students can’t recieve the very valuable text reminders) so we can also make sure we don’t mention the titles that aren’t freely available.

    1. afadmin

Glad it was useful, They can receive updates via email (left column) but I know that texts are more effective! Thanks for participating!
