This week Mother Nature and the audiobook narrators Henry Leyva and Richard Davidson take us into dangers at sea and have us right where they want us--wrapped right up in the challenges faced by these books' protagonists.

Author Matt de la Peña has been on our SYNC wish list for some time. Among his books for kids and youth at different ages and stages, his stories offer two consistent themes: plotting that makes great dramatic use of the environment and characters with genuine ethnic identities. His 2013 young adult novel, THE LIVING, is about a young man who takes a job on a cruise ship, expecting to pass the season in relative ease, only to face danger upon danger when an earthquake hits California, and a tsunami brews in its wake.

AudioFile editors had some classic disaster audiobook titles we love that we thought would be a good match. Like our young adult pick this week, Sebastian Junger’s THE PERFECT STORM has been recognized as a youth literary award winner. It's a modern classic of the most important kind–well-written creative nonfiction--and its subject is one that writers have brought to attention for millennia: humans pitted against the sea as only Mother Nature can bestir it.

Thanks to BrillianceAudio and Recorded Books for providing two adrenalin pumping audiobooks that will pull in adventurous listeners and inspire sharing SYNC with guys in listeners' lives.
