Thanks for Letting Us Know!

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, August 22, 2019
Thank you to the nearly 4,000 SYNC participants who took the time to provide us with responses to our 2019 survey! We use this information to build a better program each year so be assured that your opinions are noted. We heard from teen listeners, librarians and teachers, parents and grandparents, and adults who might be teenless but have a deep interest in audiobook listening.

What's Next?

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, August 1, 2019
By now, you may be in possession of as many as 28 new audiobooks for your listening enjoyment. SYNC's 2019 season of free audiobooks has run its course. However, we don't disappear when the season ends. What can you expect until the free audiobooks start up again next spring?

Promoting SYNC Locally? Be Authoritative!

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, April 11, 2019
We love seeing the publicity pieces many of you are compiling and promoting locally to draw attention to SYNC! Thank you! To make sure we all have our facts straight, let’s review some of our own publicity so that yours can be accurate.

Clean Up Your Virtual Bookshelf for New Arrivals

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, March 28, 2019
While it’s true that we can never have too many things on hand to read, whether with our eyes or our ears, virtual space does get filled just as physical bookshelves can become crowded. With less than a month to go before SYNC 2019 kicks off, now is a good time to do some spring cleaning to make sure you have space on your phone, in the media space on your computer, or wherever else you stash audiobook downloads.

The Power of Pairing

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, March 21, 2019
During each week of the SYNC season, we place two thematically related audiobooks on offer and for keeps. Why a pair? We have lots of reasons and are sure you’ve discovered a few more, if you are a SYNC veteran.

We've Got a Toolkit to Help You

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, March 7, 2019
We know teachers, librarians, and other group leaders who share information about and activities related to SYNC are busy, so each year, we create and update a Toolkit to help you in promoting the program and answering common questions.

Power in a Personal Library

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, October 18, 2018
Many of us involved in developing, maintaining, and spreading the word about AudiobookSYNC as an annual program for teen listeners are also big believers in libraries and their collections. Free access to a vast array of choices underwrites our--and teen--access to unbounded intellectual freedom.

What Teens Said about SYNC 2018 Titles

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, August 16, 2018
We heard from teen listeners, librarians, educators, and adults, too, with responses to our 2018 selections. You can read an overview of the end of season survey returns on the AudiobookSYNC web page, under the Toolkit tab (SYNC 2018 Results).

What Do You Say?

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, August 2, 2018
Thanks to all of you SYNC listeners who have already sent back our annual program survey! We use these results annually to build a better and more satisfying program of free audiobooks for the next summer.

So now what?

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, July 26, 2018
Just as we heard from many of you the past 10 days or so, we'll miss SYNC 2018 edition, too. Thank you for joining in the listening and audio bookshelf-building! What happens now?

April showers bring---SYNC opening day this year! It's just one week away. That's just enough time to run through a final checklist of SYNC-related preparations:

Audiobooks and SYNC are for avid readers too

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, April 6, 2017
If you aren't an avid audiobook listener yourself and you're new to SYNC, you might wonder if the teens in your own life "need" audiobooks. Others experiences and considerable research show that the answer is "yes."

SYNC 2017 by the numbers

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, March 23, 2017
We’re hearing how excited you are about AudiobookSYNC17. You know we are, too. As we put the finishing technical touches on a grand season that will be 16 weeks long, we've noticed some startling figures. How much audiobook time is included in those 32 audiobooks? The math kind of bowled us over. See how it sounds (oops, pun) to you:

Memorable characters

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, February 16, 2017
The AudiobookSYNC 2017 season includes a host of engaging--and some terrifying--characters. Teens likely have met some of these in popular culture versions and may be surprised to find their stories as conceived in original and alternative accounts.

Discussing Identity: Audiobook Discussion Group Guide

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Friday, June 17, 2016
James Weldon Johnson’s 1912 novel offers us an opportunity to talk about how identity, in contemporary America, continues to elicit an array of strong feelings, public messages that may conflict with private behaviors, and awareness of differences between the identities we apply to ourselves, and those applied to us by others. We hope that you consider hosting a discussion of this audiobook after you and the group you host have the opportunity to listen to it.
