A Classic Finale

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Our final week of this year’s AudiobookSYNC program features a pair of titles you’ll want to download and hear again and again.

Laura Ruby’s BONE GAP won the 2016 Printz Award for excellence in young adult fiction. Dan Bittner’s performance of this delightful novel, for HarperAudio, demonstrates exactly why this is destined to be a classic about storytelling and storytellers. At the heart of the tale, two bothers and a beautiful immigrant girl from Poland share what happens—both among them and among the citizens of Bone Gap—when she’s kidnapped. Bittner voices every part, truly creating a movie in our ears.

In the vein of storytelling at its finest, Naxos AudioBooks’ CLASSIC AMERICAN SHORT STORIES completes our 2016 season. Classic, and much assigned, works of short fiction by such important American writers as Ambrose Bierce, Kate Chopin, and Mark Twain are performed here by an ensemble cast of William Roberts, Garrick Hagon, and Liza Ross. Download this one for the new academic year; you’re likely to meet every story here during high school, so make friends now and have these excellent performances in your mind already.

Although this week completes our 2016 AudiobookSYNC season of free audiobooks for teens, we’ll continue to post information in the coming weeks, asking for your feedback as well as your help creating next season’s possible listening list.

Thanks for coming along—and keep on listening!
