Groundhog's Day on SYNC 2017

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, February 2, 2017

On February 2, our eyes turn to the local groundhog as a prognosticator of Spring's arrival. In keeping with the day's theme of shadows, we're announcing some 2017 AudiobookSYNC titles in which shades and shadows occur.

Daniel Jose Older's SHADOWSHAPER, from Scholastic, narrated by Anika Noni Rose (pictured above), features a kind of magic on which the title is based. It's the first in a trilogy and listeners will want to keep up with the series as new episodes are published.

We've announced Brilliance Audio's SHADOWS ON THE MOON, by Zoe Marriott and performed by Amy Rubinate. Here is a different kind of fantasy, shot through with historical details from feudal Japan.

Then there's BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY, by award-winning Ruta Sepetys, performed by Emily Klein, from Listening Library. This, too, offers authentic historical detail, with the setting wartime Lithuania, and a heroine who bravely documents her life through art.

These three titles also indicate the diversity among the authors, narrators, and audiobooks we are able to offer in our new season. And whether or not your local groundhog sees a shadow today, Spring--and our 2017 season--begins soon enough to see it in the approaching distance!
