Extending a Classic

Thanks to Scholastic Audiobooks, our new season program includes a classic adventure every teen knows recast with steampunk sensibilities that both those new to the genre and those familiar with it from manga will find engagingly refreshing.

Wendy Spinale's EVERLAND, performed by Fiona Hardingham and Steve West, invests the J. M. Barry tale of Peter Pan with all the right riffs and teasing for a satisfying alternative. Set in a post-war London-called-Everland, with West as the evil German Captain Hook and  Hardingham as Gwen, the teen girl who might be able to save all from a deadly virus, alternating chapters with their distinct viewpoints, listeners will discover both a great story and the power of multiple narrators to enhance complex storytelling.

Throughout the SYNC season, there are titles that may skew a bit older or a bit younger among the wide range of teen years. EVERLAND is an example of one that has high appeal all across the span--and beyond.
