A classic announcement and notice a current contest!

Among the classics we are thrilled to offer through the 2016 SYNC program is a 100-year-old book likely to surprise many teens with its account of race and racism as experienced by a fictitious hero who lives first as a black American and then as a white man.

THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF AN EX-COLORED MAN was written by James Weldon Johnson, a black man whose own life spanned Reconstruction through the Harlem Renaissance, and who was educated as a lawyer while also becoming a literary star. Thanks to Tantor Media for providing listeners with a book likely to lead them on to the current National Book Award BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME, by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

And speaking of Coates' book, have you entered the contest running for just three more days that might win you a free copy of its download? Check it out on AUDIOFILE MAGAZINE's Facebook page!
