An All-new SYNC Season on Its Way

Written by Francisca Goldsmith on Thursday, January 17, 2019

With our 28 titles selected for the 2019 SYNC season, we’re ready to start introducing you to some of the listens you can anticipate. This week we’re sharing what’s on its way from the first two publishers to respond to our annual invitation for audiobooks to share with teens and to help teens build their very own audiobookshelf.

Kwame Alexander returns from Blink! this summer, both as author and narrator. SWING, his newest novel written with Mary Rand Hess, weighs in at four hours—a great beginning length for new audiobook listeners—and won AudioFile Magazine’s Earphones Award.

Also from Blink! listeners will have access to McCall Hoyle’s MEET THE SKY, narrated by Morgan Fairbanks. This six-hour listening experience is complete with appropriate Outer Banks drawl and the added dimension of chapter heading quotations from the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Naxos AudioBooks also supplies teens with a pair of fine listening experiences, both of which are classics. One week this season you’ll have the opportunity to discover, hear, and keep William Shakespeare’s OTHELLO in an Earphones Award-winning full cast production that runs two and a half hours. Another week, Oscar Wilde returns for another spin with teen listeners, this time through the voicing of master narrator Rupert Degas in THE CANTERVILLE GHOST. At just an hour and a quarter this is one everyone will want to hear over and over and take out again for times when hilariously spooky entertainment is in order.

The SYNC season opens April 25. Across the next several weeks from now, we’ll be introducing other publisher contributions coming your way. You can also look forward to the complete roster of thematic pairings to be published some time in the next six weeks or so, along with a complete toolkit of posters and other publicity material. Stay tuned.
