What is SYNC?

SYNC is a program that gives away two complete audiobook downloads–a current Young Adult title paired thematically with a Classic or Required Summer Reading title–each week to listeners ages 13+ while SYNC is in session each summer.

Titles are delivered through the OverDrive Media Console.  You can prepare for the program by downloading the software to your desktop and whichever device you anticipate listening on.

SYNC is dedicated to introducing the listening experience to the young adult audience and demonstrates that Required Reading can be completed by listening.

SYNC gives away 2 FREE audiobook downloads every week each summer. In 2014, 26 titles were given away over 13 weeks starting May 15th. We shall return with a new summer program in May of 2015.

SYNC audiobook titles are given away in thematic pairs. Young Adult focused titles are partnered with classics, required reading titles and other thematically appropriate Young Adult tiles to encourage literacy and listening in young people across the country.

SYNC is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are delivered through OverDrive Media Console.

Simply sign-up to get notifications of when the FREE audiobook downloads are available.  You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by simply following the SYNC blog.

Please Note: Signing up for these alerts will not send you the titles.  The alerts will simply tell you when and where the title is available to download.

I downloaded most of the titles that were offered this summer and now I am getting around to trying to listen to them, but when I do, starting with Anne of green gables, it says the license for AoGG could not be obtained. What does that mean? I have installed OverDrive but not sure how to open these files.

    Thank you,

    1. Michele Cobb

Unfortunately, that means there was an error when the file downloaded and it did not complete properly. Have you tried any of the other titles?

  2. C R K

Are you having licensing issues? I ask because we downloaded the free weekly selections this Summer and today they all disappeared from our Overdrive Media Console. To check on the problem, I tried to download The Shawl just now. The Console did not download but responded instead with a message that the licence for The Shawl could not be found. This is very troubling, as my daughter was listening to one of your selections when it suddenly stopped playing. When she checked the Console, none of the audiobooks downloaded from here this Summer appeared. None of them. I sure hope that this site was operating with appropriate permissions. I cannot imagine it doing otherwise!

    1. Michele Cobb

That message can be misleading. If you updated the console that may have caused an issue. Please email synchelp@audiofilemagazine.com with information on your device and browser so we can best assist you.

How do I sign up on my iphone?

    1. Michele Cobb

You can text syncya to 25827 to receive the new title emails. To download the titles go http://www.audiobooksync.com/free-sync-downloads/ after you have loaded the OverDrive Media Console from here http://omc.overdrive.com/

I can’t seem to download with a ChromeBook. Overdrive says no app is needed, however, I think I read where GoogleChrome is no longer compatible. Any hints/suggestions?

    1. Michele Cobb

      Please email synchelp@audiofilemagazine.com for assistance.

  5. Audra Cabote

I can’t find where to join via my smartphone. I just want yo get alerts.

    1. Michele Cobb

TEXT syncya to 25827 or use the side widget Title alerts to add your email to our list.

Can I download these to a CD or a SD card? or are they only for mobile devises?

    1. Michele Cobb

These are MP3 files. You may download them to a mobile phone, computer or tablet.

  7. Lisa

Such a fantastic service! I am a school library media specialist, and I’ll spread the word to teachers and students. Thanks so much!

    1. Michele Cobb

You are welcome! Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I’m astonished that you don’t seem to have a privacy policy link! I’m sure I’m not the only person who doesn’t sign up for things without knowing how their info may be used. (It’s also something we should be teaching all young people to look for!)

    1. Michele Cobb

That is definitely on our list to do. Be assured we do not share information with anyone.

    2. Michele Cobb

Our privacy policy is now up under the ABOUT tab.

  9. Jen Davis

    thanks so much!

  10. Jen Davis

I would like to join, but it is not working for me either. Thanks

    1. Michele Cobb

      I’m signing you up now!

  11. Deb Poole

This will be my fourth year on sync. My first free audiobook was The Hunger Games – and what a ride that took us on! We’ve been hooked since then! Thank you to AudioFile Magazine, and all of the sponsors for opening the door to the world of audiobooks for us! We love them!!!!

    1. Michele Cobb

Thank you. We are thrilled you enjoy. Spread the word far and wide!

  12. Karsyn

    This is great

    1. Michele Cobb

Thank you – feel free to spread the word!

  13. Polly White

I would like to join, but the Join button is not working for me either. Thanks!

    1. Michele Cobb

      You are signed up!

  14. Becky

Nothing happens when I hit join either, from Safari or Chrome. :( This sounds like an excellent program.

    1. Michele Cobb

I have added you to our email list. Thanks for participating.

  15. Suz

Please add me to your mailing list — none of my browsers worked :-(

    1. Michele Cobb

You have been added to the mailing list. Can you tell me which page you were on when you tried to add yourself and had you put your email in the box and then hit join to no affect?

  16. Shanna

The join button is still not working. I am a librarian and parent of teens. I am going to share this with my teenage daughter. She prefers audiobooks. Thanks for this. Is there a printable bookmark or something on the website to share with library patrons?

    1. Michele Cobb

I’ve added you to our mailing list. Still not sure what’s going on with the JOIN button as all the tests we’ve done on this end show it working. We do have lots of promotional materials – visit SYNC Professionals tab and click on the Tool Kit for bookmarks, postcards, e-newsletter text and more. Thanks for helping spread the word!

  17. Helen

no reaction from the join button. I’m on Mozilla….please add me..

    1. Michele Cobb

I’ve added you. We continue to try and identify the problem.

  18. Michele

Same problem as above. When I enter my email address it doesn’t seem to do anything. I use Google Chrome.

    1. Michele Cobb

It works for me on chrome but I’ve got our tech people on it. Hopefully we can identify the problem and fix it soon. In the meantime, I’ve entered you onto the list and you should be getting an email to verify signing up shortly. Thanks for helping us realize there is an issue.

  19. Chris

For some reason, when you click the join button, nothing happens

    1. Michele Cobb

Hmm…working fine on this end. I wonder if it’s something to do with your browser. I have added your email to our title alerts email list. Let me know if I can assist in any other way.

      1. Andrea

I have the same problem as Chris above (we work for the same lib system…)

        1. Michele Cobb

Interesting. I’ve signed you up as well. What browser are you using so I can try and identify the problem.

          1. Andrea

We use Internet Explorer 9 (as far as I can tell). Thanks for whatever you can do.

          2. Joey Fabian

It seems as if I am also not able to get the “Join” button to do anything, I have tried in both Safari and Chrome (those are the only two browsers I have on my Macbook).

          3. Michele Cobb

I’ve added you to the email list as well. We are trying to replicate the problem here in order to fix it.

  20. Lolibrary

Are these for keeps or do they disappear after two weeks like the lending listening libraries?

    1. Michele Cobb

      They are yours to keep!

  21. Kathi Ducharme

So excited to hear about your free offer! Thanks!
