I wonder whether there could be a more gender-balanced list next year? Near as I can tell, of the 20 authors on offer, only 4 of them are female. Perhpas it was weighted theother in previous years…?
afadmin
May 30, 2012 at 1:02 pm (UTC 0) Link to this comment
Thanks for your comment, Joanna. The gender of the author has not come into play with our decisions in the past. In the Young ADult Category, there are in fact 6 male authors and 4 female authors. What I DO look at is the balance of characters. I was worried on the opposite side that we have 6 strong female leads, and only 4 male main characters. As for the Classic pairings, one struggles for both female authors and characters there, but so goes the cannon…

You can sign up for ALERTS on SYNC title releases via text message or via email in the right hand column, but otherwise the titles will be start rolling on 6/14 and there is no need to sign up to revive them, they will simply be on this site.

I am so excited! If it hadn’t been for Stephen King, I would probably not have fallen so in love with audiobooks. But, in his On Writing book, he said audiobooks count as reading and that he never goes anywhere without a book in one format or another. I figured, if it’s good enough for Stephen King…
Well, I fell in love! I can’t get enough of audiobooks and am super psyched about downloading these audiobooks, several of which have been in my TBR pile for way too long. Thank you SO much!

Great program. I have downloaded my first audiobooks this morning. I wrote a post on my blog, and have schedualed reminders for my readers for the rest of the summer. I don’t want to miss a book. I’ll be out of the country for a couple of weeks and am hoping the books will be available there. won’t be bringing my laptop but should be able to download them to my Blackberry Playbook.
Will there be a forum where we can comment/discuss these audio books and where we can make comments on the program in general? I’d like to add a link to my blog in the event that my readers want to have their say.

Heather, you are a SYNC heroine! We are SO very pleased that you are listening are you are bringing your readers along for the ride. As for discussion, we have left the Comments field open on every page and title. We are hoping to conversation happens there…
As for travel, we do block IP addresses of certain countries when the publisher requires it. You can see if the country you are visiting is blocked from the particular vacation week title here:

BUT, we THINK your Blackberry will let you in regardless.

This is an amazing offer!! I love audiobooks and usually find myself in the middle of multiple books, 1 paper/ebook and 1 audio. I have a book review blog and I will be updating weekly to remind my readers to download these books. You can’t beat free, especially when it’s something you’ve had on your wish list already!

On the schedule of downloads is a TBA for the week of 26th July – 8th August and on the list of restrictions there’s “Romeo and Juliet”. I wonder whether this is the TBA title for that week. I ask because a teacher wants resources on Shakespeare and this would be a great addition for us.
We have now distributed a version of the student reminder cards to the pigeon holes of all our staff members and regular notices into our school Bulletin will encourage students to download the books.

My 12-year-old is an avid reader of today’s young-adult books. I have never before been able to get her to show interest in classic books. However, for the second year in a roll SYNC has achieved the impossible. Not only is Macy being exposed to classic literature but she is enjoying it! Her only complaint is that the program runs only during the summer.
As a mother on a very limited budget, your program is a God send. Also it’s also a wonderful program that keep the children’s mind stimulated during the summer.
Again, thank you so much for the wonderful program!

I love to read and I love the summer reading program you have. The cost of free fits my finances considering I don’t have any. I think what you are doing is awesome! My mom’s always on me about being exposed to more classic books. I just found them boring. But the way you pair them up with a related current book enhances my reading experience and get my mom off my back. Not to mention they are fun to listen to while walking or just sitting around the house with nothing to do. I can let my mind wonder and develop the scenes in my mind’s eyes as the audio plays. It bring the book more to life. So like my mom said;
Thank you so very much!
My only suggestion,
could you start a school year program? Maybe one that cost very little to join so that we could enjoy a modern tale combined with an enhancing classic during the school year as well? You could continue it weekly or on a bi-weekly basics! All I am asking is you keep your mind open to the idea!
!
I <3 SYNC!
